Cancer Council Queensland is appealing to schools around the state to turn yellow by participating in the Daffodil Day Appeal this month.
The Daffodil Day Appeal, held throughout August and culminating in Daffodil Day on Friday, August 23, is all about raising vital funds for life-saving cancer research.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan encouraged schools to get involved in the iconic campaign by picking a day in August that suits them to hold a fundraiser.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to build relationships with the local community and to show support to those affected by cancer,” Ms McMillan said.
“With one in two Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, it’s so important that we fund the best research available.
“By setting up a stall or holding a dress yellow day for a gold coin donation schools in Queensland can really help to make a difference.
“It’s a fabulous way to raise money for an important cause, and an opportunity to foster values of empathy, encourage student leadership, and give hope to those impacted by cancer.”
Schools that register will receive a Daffodil Day Appeal kit with a range of useful resources, including our schools handbook, classroom activities, fundraising ideas and merchandise.
Teachers are also encouraged to explain to their classes what Daffodil Day is all about and schools that register their involvement will receive a host kit with tools and resources.
“Introducing the work of Cancer Council to students will help them understand the impact of cancer and why the work in cancer research is so important,” Ms McMillan said.
“Our friends at Twinkl Australia have helped developed some wonderful Daffodil Day themed classroom activities and by getting involved your school could win some incredible prizes.”
