Wagga Wagga City Council is implementing the New South Wales Government initiative Scores on Doors, a voluntary program aimed at promoting food safety and good hygiene standards in food businesses.
The program is a food safety rating system designed to help food businesses and inform consumers about food safety practices and hygiene standards.
Council’s Environmental Health Coordinator Sharomi Dayanand said Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) play an important role in the Scores on Doors initiative.
“EHOs routinely inspect and assess the health and safety requirements of retail food establishments,” Ms Dayanand said.
“Based on their findings, they assign scores that reflect the level of hygiene and food safety practices in place.
“These scores are displayed prominently, allowing consumers to make more informed choices.”
Ms Dayanand said the program creates a competitive environment between businesses, driving and maintaining good food safety practices to achieve higher scores.
“By participating, restaurants and cafes showcase their commitment to high standards of hygiene and food safety, enhancing their business reputation and increasing customer confidence,” Ms Dayanand said.
“The program also provides a clear framework for conformity with the Food Safety Standards, helping business owners make improvements where necessary.”
