Barossa United Football Club is set to enjoy contemporary new facilities in 2024 as work begins on new clubrooms and changerooms at Nuriootpa Centennial Park.
Four gender-neutral change rooms will be complemented by a new clubroom that includes kitchen, canteen, medical and referee facilities.
The $6 million redevelopment of the precinct by The Barossa Council includes $1,034,462 million funding as part of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program.
Mayor Bim Lange says the new facilities will meet Football SA standards to ensure the regional-level precinct can meet both current demand and future growth of the sport.
“The amazing performance by the Matildas in the Women’s World Cup means the round ball game is more popular than ever before, and it’s terrific to see this reflected at the grassroots competition level,”
“With more than 450 players at Barossa United Football Club and strong female participation rates, we’re really excited to deliver new facilities that will support the club to grow even more.”
This next phase of works complements a new synthetic pitch and lighting plus a grass modified pitch for training and local competition.
“We believe these additional playing spaces and contemporary facilities for players, referees and club members will attract more people to competitive sport and support the sustainability of our local football club,” Mayor Lange said.
“This redevelopment has been possible thanks to our valued partners including Football SA, Nuriootpa Centennial Park Authority and the Club itself.
“It’s also great that we’ve been able to award the contract to a local company in Bishop Building to keep economic benefits flowing to our local community.”
Construction is expected to get underway immediately with an opening anticipated later in 2024.
The LRCI program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across the nation, supporting jobs and delivering benefits to local communities.
