ScrapMart reopening at long last in Cooma and Jindabyne

With lockdown lifted and NSW opening up as the state continues to hit vaccination targets, Council is excited to announce the long-awaited reopening of the ScrapMart facilities in Cooma and Jindabyne this month.

ScrapMart Cooma is reopening at 1pm Saturday 6 November 2021, followed by ScrapMart Jindabyne at 10am Sunday 7 November.

So-called ‘buyback’ schemes offer both environmental and economic benefits and have been available in the Snowy Monaro since 2009.

Keeping the precious metals and toxic chemicals found in electronics out of landfill prevents potential contamination of the local environment, but it also means less of these materials need to be mined and synthesised too.

Buyback schemes like ScrapMart save ratepayers money as well. Keeping more material out of landfill prolongs the life of landfill facilities and lessens ongoing maintenance costs.

Allowing the donation of resalable goods for free also means community members can avoid having to pay disposal fees on many items they bring to our waste facilities.

In September 2021 alone, Jindabyne Landfill diverted 2864kg waste from landfill through their ScrapMart store.

From retro furniture to romance novel boxsets, whipper-snippers to Winger’s Greatest Hits, at ScrapMart in Cooma or Jindabyne there’s no better place to bag yourself a bargain.

Donations can be dropped off during opening hours at Cooma or Jindabyne Landfills, but please keep in mind that only good quality items that people would want to buy can be accepted.
