Text alternative for graph, Number of workers in the screen industry, by type, 2007-17

This line graph shows the number of workers in the screen industry by worker type for the tax years 2007 to 2017. The graph shows that the number of contractors declined between 2012 and 2014 from 10,600 to 8,800, then bounced back, increasing to 11,200 in 2017. The graph also shows that this dip in contractor numbers was mirrored by the total number of individuals in the industry. The graph shows the number of employees in the industry has stayed relatively stable. There are two dashed vertical lines in the graph. The one at year 2010 indicates when the ‘Hobbit law’ came into effect. The other, at year 2014, indicates changes to incentives.

Footnote 1, ‘Hobbit law’ refers to the Employment Relations (Film Production Work) Amendment Act 2010.

Footnote 2, ‘Change to incentives’ refers to changes to the New Zealand Screen Production Grant.
