Search on for everyday heroes who help keep our suburbs safe

Launch of Safer Suburbs Awards

The City is searching for Gold Coast’s everyday heroes who make our neighbourhoods safe.

Nominations are open for the biennial Safer Suburbs Awards which celebrate individuals and organisations dedicated to making the Gold Coast a safe, more resilient and connected community.

“Gold Coasters already pitch in to help keep the city safe and the awards recognise those who go above and beyond to build an even safer community,” Mayor Tom Tate said.

“The Safer Suburbs Awards is about saying thankyou to those community members whose work helps protect our vulnerable, educates our children and build local awareness about safety issues.

“The award will also highlight some of the important work these people, community groups and organisations do and how community members can help.

“If you know someone who is doing great work keeping our city safe, show your appreciation by filling out a nomination form for the Safer Suburbs Awards.”

Mayor Tate launched the awards before chairing the Safer Suburbs Forum which focused on safety issues affecting the Gold Coast and an update on projects which make the city more secure.

The forum included representatives of the City, the Queensland Police Service, the Department of Youth Justice, Employment, Small Business and Training, the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation, Study Gold Coast, Destination Gold Coast and Gold Coast Neighbourhood Watch.

The Safer Suburbs Awards includes three categories – individual, community group and project or initiative.

A winner selected from each category and a meritorious award will be given to one nominee.

Previous winners of the Safer Suburbs Awards include Multicultural Social Network volunteer Kareem Baba, Men of Business, and the Youth Justice Co-Responder program.

Nominations close on September 8.

All eligible nominees will be recognised at an awards ceremony on October 11 where the winners will be announced.
