Police are currently searching for four people following a pursuit across the New England, Hunter Valley and Newcastle areas today.
About 3.50am today (Monday 20 May 2024), police were called to a hotel on Spains Lane, Kingswood 10km south of Tamworth, following reports of an aggravated break and enter.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District arrived and were told four people with their faces covered had broken into a hotel room before threatening the occupants and stealing a Ford Mustang.
Following inquiries, police saw the stolen vehicle travelling on the New England Highway near Scone.
Police directed the driver to stop, however when the driver failed to do so a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through the Muswellbrook, Newcastle and Mayfield area, before the vehicle crashed into a service station on Corona Street, Mayfield.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District arrived to find the driver and passengers had fled the scene.
A crime scene has been established and police are investigating the incident.
As inquiries continue police are hoping to speak with four youths who may be able to assist with inquiries.
They are described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance. There is no description of their clothing.
