Second Man Charged After Fawkner Non-fatal Shooting

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have today charged a second man as part of their investigation into a non-fatal shooting in Fawkner earlier this year.

A 28-year-old Fawkner man was arrested at his home address this morning without incident.

He was interviewed by police and subsequently charged with intentionally cause injury, affray, criminal damage, assault with weapon, driving disqualified and theft.

The man is expected to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tonight.

Earlier this week a 21-year-old Heidelberg West man was charged with reckless conduct endanger life, intentionally cause injury, prohibited person use firearm, affray and theft of motor vehicle as part of this investigation.

He was already in custody on unrelated matters and will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 23 August.

Both arrests follow a series of incidents in Fawkner on 29 February this year including a non-fatal shooting, road rage incident, vehicle ramming and collision.

A white Nissan Skyline and a black Cherry SUV were initially involved in a road rage incident on Lovely Street in Fawkner around 5.15pm. No one was physically injured during the incident.

A short time later, the five male occupants of the white Nissan were sitting inside the vehicle at Charles Mutton Reserve, just off Tyrell Street, when their car was rammed by a gold Holden Rodeo about 6pm.

The four male occupants of the Holden then exit their vehicle before allegedly firing a number of shots in the direction of the five men, subsequently chasing them with baseball bats.

Around a minute and a half later, the four men return to their vehicle and flee the scene.

The five men who were inside the damaged white Nissan returned to the vehicle, before two men exited the car and ran from the scene while the remaining three speed away from the reserve.

A 19-year-old Clifton Hill man who was in the white Nissan later self-presented to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body.

Approximately five minutes later, the gold Holden Rodeo collides with a red Mazda hatch on the Western Ring Road and Mahoneys Road on ramp.

Nobody was physically injured during the incident, including the female occupant of the red Mazda.

The investigation remains ongoing.
