Two men will face court today charged over their alleged roles in a violent brawl at a restaurant in Sydney’s south west earlier this month.
Earlier this month, investigators from Strike Force Imbara commenced an investigation after a video depicting a violent brawl was posted on social media.
Initial inquiries established that the incident occurred just after 10pm on Friday 1 November 2019 at a restaurant on Canley Vale Road, Canley Heights. Local police had not been contacted at the time.
Police will allege in court that a 21-year-old man was standing at the front of the restaurant when he was confronted by a group of men, including one armed with a stick, and assaulted.
The man’s partner and friends came to his aid and the affray moved inside the restaurant, where glass cups and a chair was thrown, before one of the men attempted to throw a wooden bench through the front window.
A female patron suffered cuts to her arm after one of the glass cups shattered near her.
Strike force investigators arrested a 20-year-old man at a home at Cabramatta about 9.20am last Wednesday (20 November 2019).
He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with affray.
Following further inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested at Fairfield Police Station about 11am yesterday (Tuesday 26 November 2019).
The Cabramatta man was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence, and affray.
Both men have been refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Wednesday 27 November 2019).
Strike Force Imbara was established in July, formed by officers attached to South West Metropolitan Region and North West Metropolitan Region, to investigate anti-social and violent behaviour of local street-level criminal networks.
Investigators are currently conducting inquiries into a number of assaults and other public acts of violence, which are believed to linked.
