Wyndham parents are being reminded to take advantage of free immunisation sessions to help keep their children healthy.
Wyndham City provides free immunisations to secondary students in Years 7 to 10.
In Term One and Two, Secondary schools will contact all parents, guardians and carers with information on the immunisation schedule for their child and consent details so their children can receive their free vaccinations.
Your child’s Secondary school will send a link to parents, guardians and carers to an online portal where they can provide consent for their child to receive the necessary immunisations.
Students in Year 7, (12 to 13 years old) can receive the human papillomavirus vaccine and the combined diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine.
Students in year 10, (14 to 16 years old) can receive the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine.
Wyndham City’s Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said: “Wyndham has more children than most other municipalities in Victoria and we encourage parents and carers to ensure their children’s vaccinations are up to date.”
“If your child is not up to date with their vaccinations, this puts them at a higher risk of contracting preventable diseases and could also pose a risk to other members of the community, especially infants and elderly people.”
The Wyndham City Immunisation Unit runs public immunisation sessions across seven locations to vaccinate against many diseases. The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Immunisation Program is a schedule of all free vaccines for babies, secondary students, right through to adults at 65 years of age.
It is vital that every parent knows just how important it is to have their children vaccinated.
“There is nothing worse than seeing a loved one struggle with an illness, especially when it is something that could be prevented by visiting an immunisation session. It’s very important for their protection and that of the broader community,” Cr Shaw said.
