Securing A Great Future For Great Ocean Road

  • Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change

Applications are now open for board positions for the new Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio today invited applications for board – committing to strong representation of local Traditional Owner groups.

The new authority is part of the Victorian Government’s landmark reforms to protect the iconic Great Ocean Road coast and parks for future generations.

The Authority will care for and protect public land along the length of the road, including areas of national park with Parks Victoria, and manage substantial tourism operations as the largest provider of visitor accommodation in the region.

The reforms support local jobs, drive investment in the area, provide for better visitor experiences and will deliver increased local community consultation especially when developing management plans.

The board will have up to 12 members and include an independent chair, a nominee of each recognised Traditional Owner group in the region and independent, skill-based board members.

Board members will have skills, knowledge or experience relevant to the functions of the authority and significant standing in their field of expertise. Suitably skilled local community members are actively encouraged to apply.

The authority will have its headquarters in Torquay, district offices in Apollo Bay and Port Campbell, and operational bases in other coastal towns along the road.

The Government promoting diverse representation on boards and encourages applications from young people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with a disability, Aboriginal people and LGBTIQ community members.

Expressions of interests for the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority closes on 2 August 2020.
