South East Melbourne (SEM) Phoenix is returning to Latrobe City in 2025 as part of a two-game agreement to host in season games at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium (GRISS).
The match is scheduled to take place on 11 January 2025 at 8.00pm, with Phoenix hosting the Brisbane Bullets in front of an anticipated crowd of 3000.
Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe, expressed excitement to have a date for the game locked in for the community to look forward to.
“This is a highly awaited event for the community. After years of fostering a strong relationship with the SEM Phoenix, locals have become loyal followers of the team and always come out in spades to support them when playing in Gippsland.”
“Bringing professional basketball to Latrobe City’s doorstep gives locals the opportunity to watch elite level sport without having to travel to a metropolitan area. It heightens excitement, draws in a huge crowd and creates an unmissable electric atmosphere on game day,” said the Mayor.
East Ward Councillor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said the game is an incredible opportunity to showcase Latrobe City as a must-see location for sporting events.
“As it is broadcast live, the game is a perfect opportunity to showcase Council’s state-of-the-art facilities and further promote the venue and Latrobe City as a destination for hosting professional sporting events, said Councillor Clancey.
“Latrobe City is the regional sports hub for South East Victoria, and we hope to see many more sporting events at all levels of competition on the horizon for our local venues!”
An announcement will be shared on Latrobe City Council’s social media when tickets go on sale and posted on GRISS’ events page here:
