A senior prosecutor with broad experience in criminal, civil, coronial and child protection matters has today been appointed to the Magistrates Court in South Australia.
Attorney-General, Vickie Chapman said Kate Hodder had more than 30 years experience in the legal sector as both a solicitor and counsel.
“Kate Hodder started her career in the Legal Services Commission and a private law firm, before moving into the Crown Solicitor’s Office, the role of Senior Counsel Assisting the Coroner for nearly 7 years, and eventually the Office of the Director for Public Prosecutions,” Ms Chapman said.
As a senior solicitor, she was a key member of the Child Protection Systems Royal Commission in 2013/14.
“Since 2013, Ms Hodder has worked within the Office of the Director for Public Prosecutions as a Senior Solicitor/Prosecutor and has coordinated advice from that office to help reform a number of our state’s criminal laws, along with continuing to appear in the Supreme Court and Court of Criminal Appeal.
“She has also played a key part in developing and sharing the wealth of knowledge within the ODPP to the benefit of all staff.
“I am pleased to appoint Ms Hodder to the Magistrates Court and congratulate her on this new and exciting opportunity. I am confident she will make an excellent contribution to the state’s judiciary.”
Ms Hodder will begin work in the Magistrates Court from June 3.
