Hobsons Bay’s older residents have a new way to regain fitness, and stay healthy and socially connected thanks to the seniors’ exercise park in Spotswood.
The park at Donald McLean Reserve includes a range of specific equipment built for older adults, which aims to help them improve strength, balance, flexibility and mobility.
The project is a partnership between Council and the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Ageing Research Institute.
Local volunteers have been trained by the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Ageing Research Institute to show people how to safely use the equipment.
These community champions are running sessions every Wednesday and Friday until 15 December between 10am and 11am.
Each station at the park also has a QR code that links directly to a video that shows people how to use the equipment correctly.
Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Cr Matt Tyler:
“The seniors’ exercise park has already been so warmly embraced by the community and it’s great to see residents getting out and using the equipment.
“This park and the sessions run by our community champions are a great way to stay active. Just as importantly, you can meet new people and stay socially active, or get a group of friends together and have some fun.”
