Applications are now being accepted by Campaspe Shire Council to support older residents through this year’s Seniors Program Grants.
General Manager Community, Mr Keith Oberin, said the Seniors Program Grants provides funds of up to $1,000 to deliver programs or activities to older citizens.
“Council is looking to fund innovative projects that effectively address social isolation for seniors while adhering to social distancing requirements issued by the State and Federal Governments,” Mr Oberin said.
Some examples could include:
- Establishment of social groups on social media
- Equipment to directly support senior programs
- Development of videos for senior’s education and enjoyment
- Support developing technology skills
- Creation of local stories to share with seniors
The program forms part of the strategic direction within the Council Plan to build strong and engaged communities.
Traditionally, many of the funded activities would take place during Seniors Week in October. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Seniors Week has been ‘reimagined’ into an ongoing online festival.
“Preference will be given to projects that display the most benefit to the community, while thinking outside the box with social restrictions in place,” Mr Oberin said.
Applications are now open, and will close on Friday, 7 August 2020 with announcements of successful applicants expected to be made by Friday, 4 September 2020.
