Bayside Council is celebrating its seniors with a series of popular high teas.
“This is just one way we recognise and honour the contribution our senior residents make to our community,” Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.
“It is an opportunity to recognise the contribution our seniors have made, not just to their families. but to our community. Your day-to-day involvement with local schools, sporting groups, churches and organisations has helped build Bayside – and create the place we all proudly call home.”
The first round of high teas took place in the Rockdale Town Hall on Saturday 28 May with more than 300 Bayside Seniors taking part.
As well as a delicious high tea and opportunity to meet with Councillors, seniors were entertained by an ABBA tribute band.
Steve Kamper MP, Member for Rockdale, and Chris Minns, Member for Kogarah and leader of the NSW Opposition, joined the Mayor and Councillors on the day to pay tribute to our seniors.
Next week the event moves to the Botany Town Hall were both sessions have already been booked out.
Bayside Council is continually developing community-based programs to maximize the health and happiness of senior residents and to ensure they are socially connected and active in the community.
Whether it’s an exercise group or choir, computer class or discussion group, our older adult services and programs are tailored to help you enjoy a healthy, active and involved lifestyle, right into retirement and beyond.
Senior citizen community centres – located throughout Bayside – also offer various community programs for those wanting to socialise and people with similar interests.
For our less-active seniors, there are support services such as meals, transport and a home library service to help you continue living comfortably and independently at home.
