Seniors looking for a relaxing place to catch up with friends or make new ones can head over to DreambuildersCare on Tuesdays for a free cuppa and something sweet.
Located at 334-336 Great Eastern Highway, Midland, the offer is available to the first 50 Seniors Card holders each Tuesday between 9.30am – 12.30pm.
Please note parking is limited however extra parking is available at the west end of CentrePoint Shopping Centre as well as road side parking along Great Eastern Highway.
Local Care Services Director Ursula Dixon explains DreambuildersCare chose to create the series because older citizens are feeling the financial and social effects of Covid-19, with many reporting a sense of isolation and disassociation.
“DreambuildersCare is keen to offer a Covid safe, friendly and low cost space to reconnect with each other and the rest of the community, and provide space and time to increase friendship circles, connection and belonging,” she said.
“Our guests have responded with absolute delight at the cake and coffee, and are loving the welcoming space, and some making new friends”
Numbers have steadily increased from six attendees in week one to 20 in week three.
City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said the series is a great add on to the existing Community Café.
“Helping older adults stay connected and safe is something that family members, neighbours, and the wider community can all contribute to, and its great to see this series from Dreambuilders serving our community at their point of need,” he said.
The project has received funding from the City of Swan’s Covid-19 Community Response and Relief Grants Scheme. The grants are for essential solutions that support local resilience and community wellbeing during, through and beyond Covid-19 restrictions.
Coffee is purchased from Crema, a local coffee roaster in the City of Swan, and cakes are purchased from Cookies and More, a local company with their factory in Bassendean and a shopfront in Malaga.
