Seniors Week 2020

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Disability Services and Community Development

Over 300 events will be held during the 2020 Seniors Week which commences tomorrow providing opportunities for seniors to be creative, find new hobbies, make new connections and pass on skills.

The theme, Who we are. What we do., provides a significant opportunity in Tasmania to promote healthy ageing, including physical, mental, social, cultural and spiritual wellbeing.

This year’s program offers many opportunities to connect and engage, and for the first time, many events will be online enabling more people to attend and participate than ever before.

Older Tasmanians are an amazing source of knowledge and expertise; they are the custodians of culture and values, and are recognised as the social ‘glue’ in our communities.

The week provides an opportunity to celebrate older Tasmanians and the benefits they bring to our communities, both socially and economically.

To encourage participation the Government is pleased to be able to offer free bus travel on any Metro bus during Seniors Week for Tasmanian Seniors Card holders.

The Tasmanian Government funds Council on the Ageing Tasmania (COTA Tasmania) to coordinate Seniors Week and acknowledges the commitment COTA makes to ensuring Seniors Week is as varied, accessible and enjoyable as possible for all.

The Seniors Week Program is available from a range of outlets across the State including Service Tasmania shops, local government offices and COTA Tasmania’s website at www.cotatas.org.au.
