Services added for Grand Final

Melbourne’s free tram zone will be extended, and extra public transport services added during Grand Final week to help Victorians celebrate the highly anticipated clash between Richmond and Greater Western Sydney.

More than 70 extra train and tram services have been added to the regular timetable this week to help Tigers and Giants fans enjoy both the Grand Final and Grand Final Parade.

From Wednesday until Saturday, the free tram zone will be extended to include route 70 stops at Melbourne Arena and route 48 and 75 stops at Jolimont station.

Additional route 70 and 75 trams will also be put on.

Extra train services will run on eight metropolitan train lines on Saturday, including services after the post-match concert.

V/Line will also run extra services across regional Victoria.

Swan Street will be closed to traffic between Punt Road and Church Street from 4.30pm with route 70 trams diverting down Bridge Road between Russell Street and Riversdale Junction.

There will also be road closures along Brunton Avenue, Jolimont Road and Wellington Parade before and after the game with a 40km/h speed limit in place on roads surrounding the MCG, including Punt Road.

On Friday’s Grand Final public holiday, thousands of fans will be able to get close to their footy heroes during the annual Grand Final Parade, which will run between the Old Treasury Building and Yarra Park.

Trams will not run along sections of Wellington Parade, Spring Street, Collins Street and Macarthur Street between 9.30am and 1.45pm, with diversions in place on routes 75, 48, 11, 12, 109 and the City Circle.

Before and after the parade, additional train services will also run on the Mernda, Hurstbridge, Sandringham and Glen Waverley lines.

Fans will have access to all-night public transport across Melbourne to get them home safely on Friday and Saturday nights.
