Seven charged during Operation Hotspot at Albury, NSW

Police have charged seven people during a two-day operation to disrupt and prevent crime within the Murray River Police District at the weekend.

Operation Hotspot was conducted by officers attached to Murray River Police District’s Proactive Crime Team – with assistance from the Dog Unit, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Southwest Strike Force Puma, and Wagga Wagga Southern Region Enforcement Squad (RES).

The operation targeted high-risk offenders, many of whom were wanted by virtue of outstanding warrants.

During the operation, police arrested and charged four men, two women and a teenage boy.

  • About 5.45pm Saturday (19 March 2022), officers stopped a vehicle on Urana Road, Lavington, and spoke with the driver – a 46-year-old woman. She was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station where she was charged over two outstanding warrants and drive whilst licence suspended. She was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today(Tuesday 22 March 2022).
  • About 6pm Saturday (19 March 2022), police attended a home in North Albury, where they arrested a 24-year-old man. He was charged with be carried in conveyance, and passenger not disclose driver/other passenger’s identity. It will be alleged he was a passenger in a car that rammed a police vehicle in a shopping centre carpark on Saturday 8 January 2022. He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court on Monday 2 May 2022.
  • About 7.45pm Saturday (19 March 2022), police arrested a wanted man after a short foot pursuit. The 37-year-old was taken to Albury Police Station where 15 outstanding warrants were executed. He was also charged with possess implements to enter/drive conveyance, possess house breaking implements, be carried in conveyance and dishonestly obtain property by deception. He was denied bail to appear in Albury Local Court on Monday 4 April 2022.
  • About 8pm Saturday (19 March 2022), officers attended a home in Albury where they arrested two males aged 15 and 26. It will be alleged the boy was found in possession of keys belonging to an allegedly stolen vehicle. He was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with receive stolen property outside NSW. He was refused bail to appear in a children’s court on Monday 28 March 2022. The man was charged with possess or use prohibited weapon without permit, and breach of bail. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Albury Local Court on Monday 28 March 2022.
  • Then, about 1.10am Sunday (20 March 2022), officers stopped a man in Nowra Street, North Albury. It will be alleged the 29-year-old was in possession of a taser. The Lavington man was issued a Court Attendance Notice to appear in Albury Local Court on Monday 28 March 2022.
  • About 2.20am yesterday (Sunday 20 March 2022), police attended a home in North Albury, where a 25-year-old woman was arrested over an outstanding warrant. She was refused bail and appeared before Wagga Wagga Local Court yesterday (Sunday 20 March 2022).
