Police conducted two days of road safety operations in the Preston and Gawler areas over the weekend, focusing on the fatal five: speeding, not wearing a seatbelt correctly, drink and drug driving, inattention, and fatigue.
“On Saturday afternoon our road policing officers issued 11 infringements for speeding in the Preston and Gawler locality,” said Inspector Adam Spencer of Western Road Policing Services.
“In the very early hours of Sunday morning, these officers returned to the area and conducted about 300 breath tests.”
“Seven people were charged with drink driving between 5am and 11am, that’s seven more people who were putting our community at risk.”
Inspector Spencer warned that the community can expect to see road policing officers patrolling isolated areas of the north-west and on the west coast.
“If you don’t expect we will be about and think you can get away with it, think again.”
“Our road policing officers are planning operations and tailoring them to the element of our community who feel they can get away with it.”
