Seven people lost their lives on NSW roads during the Anzac weekend yet fewer people were injured in crashes when compared to the same time in 2018.
Operation Go Slow, the state’s Anzac long-weekend road safety operation, started at 12.01am on Wednesday 24 April 2019 and finished last night (11.59pm on Sunday 28 April 2019).
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said while the numbers of people detected speeding and drink driving have declined, the Easter and Anzac holiday break featured too many stories of good people making bad choices when they took control of a vehicle.
“Driving is a privilege, not a right and there were some people we detected across the holidays who need to accept this and know they will be held accountable for their actions,” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.

Some examples of inappropriate behaviour on NSW roads during Day Five of Operation Go Slow include:
Prestons: About 1.16am yesterday (28 April 2019), a 49-year-old man travelling north on the M7 at Prestons left the road and hit a concrete barrier. He has travelled onto Cowpasture Road and stopped at a service station. Witnesses attempted to stop the driver but he drove off on the incorrect side of the road. Police were able to stop the vehicle soon after. The driver returned a positive road side breath test and a subsequent breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.191. The 49-year-old was issued a Court Attendance Notice for the offence of driving with a high range PCA. He will appear in Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 22 May 2019
The Lakes: About 3.50pm yesterday, a 48-year-old man was driving a Toyota RAV 4 south on The Lakes at Forster. A random breath test returned a positive reading. A subsequent breath analysis returned a reading of 0.196. A check of his driver’s licence revealed it expired. The male was
issued a licence suspension notice and his driver’s licence was confiscated. He was charged with driving with a high range PCA and having an expired licence, He will appear before Forster Local Court on 22 May 2019.
