Seymour Racing Grandstand Gets Much-Needed Lift

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is helping Seymour Racing Club improve accessibility for patrons and staff with a new lift in its grandstand.

Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines today visited the club to see progress on the installation of the lift, made possible by an investment of more than $74,000 from the Labor Government’s Victorian Racing Industry Fund.

The club is contributing more than $37,000 to the project, with matched funding from Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria.

Currently there is no safe access to the Bar Landy Restaurant and function space on the first floor for people with a disability, parents with prams, or staff carrying heavy items.

The project is delivering an automatic lift with 400kg capacity, sliding glass doors and a battery backup safety feature. Work is already well underway and should be finished next month.

This will significantly improve access for racegoers and those attending functions on the first floor, as well as making it easier and safer for staff to stock the venues with food and beverages.

The Seymour Racing Club is an important event venue for the local community, providing jobs, boosting tourism and benefitting the local economy.

Since December 2014, the Labor Government has invested more than $4.91 million to support racing infrastructure projects and racing events at Seymour Racing Club.

The thoroughbred racing industry in regional Victoria generates more than $711 million for the Victorian economy and helps sustain over 5,590 jobs.

As stated by Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines

“Our investment will help ensure all patrons and staff can safely access all the facilities and venues the Seymour Racing Club has to offer, further enhancing its ability to host events for the local community.”

“We’re committed to the health and safety of race day officials, staff and patrons.”

As stated by Seymour Racing Club Chair Stephen Clifton

“We’re very grateful for the government’s support – it’s a win for our staff and a win for people wanting to enjoy our first-floor restaurant and function space.”

As stated by Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes

“The lift will be a welcome addition on racedays for visitors and staff, and is great for the local community who use the club’s facilities throughout the year.”
