Cardinia Shire Council is seeking community input into the development of a new Arts and Culture Strategy.
The strategy will be a four-year plan to help shape Cardinia Shire into a place in which creative people and businesses can invest.
Council wants to build, support and expand the local arts so the community has ongoing access to a wide range of artistic performances, exhibitions and activities, as well as providing artists with resources and facilities to support their creative practice.
Through the implementation of the new strategy, it is envisaged the arts will enable the exploration of important social issues, and residents will have the opportunity to engage with the arts as part of their everyday life – all of which will help to create vibrant, connected communities in Cardinia Shire.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Graeme Moore said that the development of the new strategy provides the perfect opportunity for the community to help shape the direction of the arts in Cardinia Shire
“By immersing our communities in arts and culture, we become a place where creative people and organisations want to live, work and play. Additionally, the Cardinia Cultural Centre’s function business will thrive and our creative programs will flourish,” Cr Moore said.
“If you’re passionate about the arts and culture, this is your chance to share your ideas on how we can build a bright future for the arts in Cardinia Shire.”
The consultation prompts residents to share their thoughts on three key points:
- What residents would like to learn to do with art and technology
- What tools and technologies are needed to make the art residents are interested in
- What residents would like to experience in the arts.
Community members can answer the questions using the online survey at or by video submission.
Residents just need to answer the above three questions and include their name, age and suburb, then upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #CardiniaArtsVoxpops
The video with the highest number of likes on Instagram will receive two gold tickets to any show at Cardinia Cultural Centre.
Consultation closes Sunday 30 June 2019.
