Accessibility in Wallan has been given a significant boost after a new close to $1 million shared footpath was opened along Watson Street on Friday 1 November.
Council representatives joined Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green to officially cut the ribbon on the nearly $1 million project funded by Mitchell Shire Council and the Growing Suburbs Fund.
Council contributed $300,000 to the project. The Victorian Government funded $600,000 through the Growing Suburbs Fund.
The construction of this shared path along Watson Street and footpath along Dudley Street has improved the experience for pedestrians and cyclists
As part of this project, there are:
- More street parking bays
- Improved drainage
- A brand-new shared path
- Kerbside improvements
These upgrades will mean people of all ages and abilities will be able to:
- Safely walk to community facilities,
- The retail precinct
- Local schools
- Local public transport
