- New shared path to provide greater activation in suburb of Koondoola

Residents in the suburb of Koondoola now have another reason to walk, wheel and ride, with completion of the Koondoola Avenue and Butterworth Avenue Shared Path project.
Delivered under our Cycling Election Commitment package, a new 1.8 kilometre, 3 metre-wide red asphalt shared path has been constructed to boost active travel options within the area, offering more people more choice on how they get around.
The path links Marangaroo Drive and Beach Road, improving resident access to local services, facilities and attractions including Koondoola Park, Butterworth Park, Koondoola Plaza shopping centre, Koondoola Primary School, Waddington Primary School and the Koondoola Community Centre.
The shared path forms part of Western Australia’s Long-Term Cycle Network, which sets out an aspirational vision for active transport networks across metropolitan Perth and regional WA.
Along with this State Government investment, the City has been successful in securing WA Bicycle Network grants for the completion of multiple shared path projects and is also a recipient of an Active Travel Officer grant, which will fund a dedicated role to support active travel initiatives and engage local schools in the State Government’s Your Move program.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
“Our Government is investing more than $300 million to deliver top quality walking and riding infrastructure all around Western Australia.
“Planning and investing in safe and attractive bicycle infrastructure is absolutely critical, as it helps to create active, healthy and connected communities and attract visitors to support local businesses.
“Projects like this are essential as they help fill missing links in our cycling network and create a better-connected city that encourages people to be more active.”
