Mornington Peninsula Shire awards construction tender for Rosebud Aquatic Centre
2 July 2019
Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has awarded a $35.82 million contract for construction of the Rosebud Aquatic Centre.
Council considered five tender submissions before voting to award the contract to Buxton Constructions at its open Council meeting held on Monday 24 June.
Buxton Constructions is a Melbourne based construction company bringing 45 years of industry experience. They are specialists in landmark sports developments having successfully completed Geelong Leisure Link, Croydon Aquatic Centre and refurbishment of Ascot Vale Sports and Fitness Centre.
Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill said the decision marked an exciting milestone for the Aquatic Centre project.
“We are pleased to announce the successful construction tenderer, as they will help us to deliver a high-quality facility that will benefit our community and improve community health.”
“The project is a significant investment, with Council contributing $2 million from asset sales, accessing a low-cost state government loan for $10 million, with the remaining funds to be borrowed from the market at the best rate,” he said.
“A $5 million Federal Government grant has also been secured through working with the Hon Greg Hunt.”
Seawinds Ward Councillor Antonella Celi said, “This is a positive step forward to improving community health and wellbeing on the Peninsula. The progression of the project continues due to the hard work of all involved, and we are looking forward to celebrating with the community at the construction site on Monday 8 July.”
Seawinds Ward Councillor Frank Martin said, “to see the Rosebud Aquatic Centre project reach the commencement of building works, with the tender being awarded for construction, is thrilling and a great step forward for our community.”
Seawinds Ward Councillor Simon Brooks said, “we’re all eagerly looking forward to watching the Rosebud Aquatic Centre construction commence. Exhaustive refinement and revision of the design has put us in a great place; as a result the tender process has produced a superior result with the appointment of what is I think a very capable and detail-focused builder. It’s now full steam ahead to build this amazing facility for our community.”
Construction will start in July, keeping the project on track to be delivered by late 2020. Key highlights of the construction will include environmental design features to improve efficiency throughout the building.
More information regarding the project will be shared with the community at the upcoming sod turn event on Monday 8 July.
