Shoalhaven City Council is sprinting ahead on the national stage with their renewable energy efforts. Council’s ‘Charging Ahead with Renewables’ project has been selected as a finalist in the 2019 Cities Power Partnership Awards.
The Charging Ahead with Renewables project was selected from a competitive field of entries from across the nation achieving a place in the final nine entries. Mayor Amanda Findley was not surprised by the announcement with Shoalhaven City Council taking a firm stance on sustainable energy.
“It is a fantastic achievement for the Shoalhaven to be announced as a national finalist for this prestigious award, it further cements that Council is heading down the right path with its sustainable energy projects and policies.” Clr Findley said.
“Council has recently adopted a Sustainable Energy Policy setting targets to generate or source renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions, with the goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
“Our Charging Ahead with Renewables project saw a number of solar photovoltaic systems recently installed or approved for the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre and the Berry Wastewater Treatment Plant.
“This also included the Bamarang Water Treatment Plant, which had a 25kW solar PV rooftop system installed that now converts clean energy into clean water.”
“The project also included cutting-edge projects such as; the Social Access Solar Garden and Council’s Electric Vehicle Charging Station policy, furthering our reputation as a green and sustainable City.”
“Smart and sustainable, investing in renewable energy is not just good for the environment but great for Councils long term financial plan. With relatively short pay back periods, these types of investments have a long whole of project life that saves money into the future.” Clr Findley said.
The winners will be announced at the Cities Power Partnership’s national awards night on Thursday 29 August in Sydney.
