Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre recognised in Urban Development Awards

Shoalhaven City Council’s Indoor Sports Centre has been announced as a finalist in two categories the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) NSW Crown Group Awards for Excellence in Urban Development 2020.

The Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre has been nominated as a finalist in the NSW Regional Development Award of Excellence and Social & Community Infrastructure Award of Excellence categories.

The awards are designed to highlight innovation, sustainability, industry leadership and excellence in urban development across NSW and the ACT.

Shoalhaven City Council’s Mayor Amanda Findley said the announcement was an outstanding result considering the facility has only been in operation for the past year.

“I’m delighted that Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre has been recognised for its innovative design and significant social benefit to the community”, Clr Findley said.

“Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre is the only of its kind outside of the Sydney Metropolitan, giving Shoalhaven residents access to state-of-the-art recreation and community sporting facilities to stay active and connected”, Clr Findley said.

“Council developed the facility as part of a broader community recreation precinct to address the growing need for indoor sporting facilities within the Shoalhaven, whilst maintaining opportunities to attract larger sporting events and activities that create broader economic benefits to the region”, Clr Findley said.

The facility was constructed in October 2019 and cost $16.4 million dollars.

It has the capacity to cater for larger-scale sporting and other events, incorporating four multi-purpose courts, meeting/conference rooms, sports offices, creche, fitness, grandstand, multiple change rooms/referee/public toilet facilities, commercial kitchen and indoor/outdoor café social areas.

A date to announce the Awards is yet to be determined.
