Shoalhaven City Council would like to thank the Australian Defense Force (ADF) for their efforts during the bushfire recovery efforts.
Arriving in early January as part of operation Bushfire assist 2019-20, more than 80 ADF personnel from Holsworthy Barracks were quickly tasked with works to assist the region.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said the entire community were incredibly grateful for their heartfelt support shown during this unprecedented bushfire crisis.
“Shoalhaven extends its sincere thanks to the ADF and all personnel that have contributed to assist in the rebuild of the region.” Clr Findley said.
“This partnership, and the partnership with the NSW Rural Fire Service has meant we have been able to address many of the dangerous tress on local roads including Wheelbarrow Mountain Road, Bendalong Road, Springbank Road, The Wool Road, Kings Point Road and many more.”
The ADF’s main efforts were around providing essential services to the community. The Army stepped in to assist with management of donated goods to those in need. Aided in providing transport and route clearance through-out the region as well as being a significant asset to Shoalhaven Water, undertaking multiple tasks during their deployment.
ADF Personnel and equipment are no longer required in the region and have headed back to base, however, the ADF remains engaged with State and Local agencies in the recovery effort. The Shoalhaven salutes the ADF for all the support they have provided the community.
