Shoalhaven City Council has been successful in securing the NSW State Government’s Regional Growth Environment and Tourism grant announced this week by the Minister for Local Government, Shelley Hancock MP.
Shoalhaven City Council has long invested in supporting local jobs though the tourism industry and the region has recently seen success in the growth of off-season visitors. The region continues to be proud to be a sought after visitor destination.
The grant funding will see multiple projects commence in areas of inclusive access, cultural and nature-based tourism. Shoalhaven City Council would like to thank the Minister for Local Government and Member for South Coast, Shelley Hancock, and the NSW State Government for contributing $5.3 million towards the projects.
The boost of funding in conjunction with Council’s own commitment of $1.5 million and the Ulladulla Aboriginal Land Council’s $80,000 (for Ulladulla Headland projects) will assist in seven co-ordinated projects throughout the region.
Mayor Amanda Findley said she is thrilled to see the Shoalhaven recognised as a year-round destination, valued for its quality environment and visitor experiences, the funding is essential to enhance infrastructure for our residents and visitors.
“I would like to express my thanks to the NSW State Government for their generous support of sustainable tourism in the Shoalhaven.” Clr Findley said.
“The vision for the project is to diversify our tourism opportunities to enable long-term sustainable tourism growth for our region.
“The funding will assist projects in Vincentia, Sanctuary Point, St Georges Basin, Bherwerre Wetland, Hyams Beach, Ulladulla Headland and Murramarang with the next step being consultation with these communities.
“This project is all about supporting our community and will need the local knowledge of those towns and villages to make it a great success.
