Shoalhaven takes action for global climate week

We’re stepping up for Global Climate Week with the release of our Draft Sustainability and Climate Policy, and free community events to support local climate action.

On 26 September, Councillors endorsed the new Draft Sustainability and Climate Policy to be released for community exhibition, inviting all residents to share their ideas for future climate and sustainability initiatives in the Shoalhaven.

In addition to strengthening our commitment to climate action and setting a new course to achieve net zero emissions by 2035, the Policy identifies six key pathways to achieve a more sustainable Shoalhaven, by:

  1. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and responding to climate change challenges.
  2. Living in balance with our natural environment to protect and support our ecosystems.
  3. Ensuring our assets, towns and villages are future-ready, environmentally sustainable, and climate resilient.
  4. Using materials wisely and avoiding waste to protect natural resources.
  5. Supporting our community to adopt positive sustainable living practices and prepare for a changing climate.
  6. Innovating and collaborating to achieve better outcomes for our community and environment.

The Draft Sustainability and Climate Policy will be available online until 1 November 2022, along with a short survey inviting community feedback and further ideas.
