Shoalhaven wins finalist award for Innovative Youth Week Program

Shoalhaven has received a finalist award for Most Innovative Youth Week Program at the Local Government Week Awards 2023.

Shoalhaven’s Youth Week activities offered a fresh and empowering approach by creating opportunities for connections and positive social outcomes for young people in the region.

“It’s so important to have inspired activities that appeal to our young people and develop a vital sense of community,” said Mayor Amanda Findley.

“The festival was a dynamic celebration of youth culture and creativity that was a credit to everyone involved,” Cr Findley said.

The standout event was the Night is Young Festival held earlier this year. This festival celebrated the creativity and potential of young members of the community.

The festival featured 45 local musicians and performers, and 15 entrepreneurs got to sell their creative products after taking a free youth entrepreneurship course.

Eight local high school students gained work experience by managing sound, lighting, and stage operations.

Additionally, 30 young leaders from local youth committees contributed to the event’s design and helped manage it.

The success of Youth Week was thanks to various community partners, including Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, Firefly Bay & Basin, Headspace Nowra, Mission Australia, Stella Studios, The Youthie Nowra, Power FM, 2ST, and NSW Youth Week.
