Shop Barossa’s Trail of Treasures

There’s no better feeling than finding some pre-loved treasure at a bargain price and this year’s Garage Sale Trail in the Barossa on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October, is shaping up to be the biggest sustainable shopping extravaganza ever with more than 400,000 people expected to participate across 18,000+ garage sales nationally.

The national reuse and community initiative now in its ninth year is offering up a wealth of practical, quirky, collectable and colourful secondhand finds for shoppers across the nation.

The program is made possible locally by The Barossa Council and this year will support over 107 garage sales by local residents and community groups.

Garage Sale Trail Co-Founder Andrew Valder said, “With thousands of listings on the Garage Sale Trail there’s a wealth of weird and wonderful things for sale!”

Garage Sale Trail provides thousands of Australians with a chance to re-home items that may otherwise end up in landfill. According to the Gumtree’s 2019 Secondhand Economy Report, 89% of Australians have unwanted stuff and 33% admit to throwing unwanted items in the bin. ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ly these unwanted items are valued at over $43 billion.

Barossa’s youngest residents have already got into the Garage Sale Trail spirit through the local libraries Garage Sale Trail colouring competition – congratulations to Emily Thompson (12), Brock Thompson (10) and Rachael Wilson (5) on their winning entries – and themed Story Time activities, which have helped to educate on the benefits of reusing and recycling.

“Selling things you no longer need at a Garage Sale Trail is a great way to do your bit for the environment and meet some of your neighbours at the same time.” Said Deputy Mayor John Angas.

Shoppers can map out sales they’d like to visit over the weekend for free by searching the map and creating a Trail at
