After years disruptive construction and the lingering impacts lockdowns and restrictions, Bonbeach shopping strip will be revitalised with a $200,000 commitment from the Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s.
Bonbeach shopping strip has been neglected in recent times, with train line works seeing the Bonbeach train station moved further down the line away from the strip.
The impacts of recent Covid restrictions have also impacted shopper confidence, with abandoned or permanently closed businesses the confronting reality of the traders’ struggles.
Working alongside the traders and the City of Kingston, the funding could deliver new footpaths, shopfront repainting and repairs, lighting upgrades, revegetation, and landscaping and outdoor seating.
The commitment is part of the Victorian Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s’ $30 million Local Shopping Strip Recovery Plan, which will support local communities across the state to recover and rebuild.
Shadow Minister for Small Business, David Southwick, said the commitment will give small businesses the confidence they need.
“The traders are struggling. Our plan will get them back on their feet, and bring back local residents to shop, dine and spend.”
Liberal Candidate for Carrum, Bec Buchanan, said Bonbeach shops had the potential to be a bustling beachside hub.
“Only the Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s will deliver for Bonbeach, and support the smallest businesses in the community.”
