Geelong’s historic City Hall building is lighting up in blue and white this week as the City of Greater Geelong shows its support for the Cats ahead of Saturday night’s AFL Grand Final.
Starting Wednesday night and continuing Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, a prominent ‘Go Cats’ message is being projected onto the façade of the building, while the front columns are transforming into Geelong’s famous blue and white hoops.
The initiative is one of several ways the City is getting behind the Cats as they prepare to square off against Richmond at the GABBA in the hope of securing a fourth premiership since 2007.
The catenary lights at the intersection of Malop and Moorabool Streets in central Geelong are shining blue and white every evening this week.
Cats banners and billboards have also been on display across the city since the beginning of the finals, and a Cats flag is now flying above City Hall.
Members of the community are encouraged to enjoy all of the City’s decorations in a COVID-safe manner, in line with current Victorian Government restrictions.
Please do not gather in large numbers, be sure to wear a face mask at all times, and maintain a 1.5-metre distance from others.
Built in 1855 on the corner of Gheringhap and Little Malop Streets in Geelong, City Hall is the earliest surviving municipal building in Victoria.
