- $1.17 million grant for equipment and infrastructure upgrades at Patjarr Community
- Upgrades will support land management and a new cultural learning hub
- Enhanced care for natural heritage on the Pila Nature Reserve
The Cook Labor Government has provided the Warnpurru Aboriginal Corporation with a $1.17 million Lotterywest grant towards major upgrades at Patjarr Community, 1,200 kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie.
It will support the community’s work to connect with country and care for natural heritage on the Pila Nature Reserve.
The upgrades will provide a male and female team of Warnpurru Rangers with a secure base at the Patjarr Community to plan and perform ranger patrols. The base will have upgraded equipment to enable the community to maintain ranger vehicles.
More than $350,000 of the grant will go towards the refurbishment of the ‘Warli Nintirringkutjaku’ (Two-way Learning Hub).
Two-way knowledge sharing and education are priorities for the Yarnangu Traditional Owners.
The grant will also fund upgrades to the community’s communal kitchen and laundry, as well as transport costs for materials and equipment to the remote community.
