The Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $27.48 million redevelopment of Sorell School is nearing completion.
The Tasmanian Government is getting on with delivering contemporary new learning facilities for students in the Sorell region, with Stage 2 works completed.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, toured completed facilities as part of Stage 2 of the project.
“It was wonderful to see first-hand how these new spaces are already being used and enjoyed by students and staff,” Minister Palmer said.
“Stage 2 works included demolition of old buildings and construction of a new K-2 learning hub along with ‘The Nest’ Child and Family Learning Centre, which was funded separately by the Tasmanian Liberal Government and commenced operating earlier this month.
“This important upgrade at Sorell School will set up one of Australia’s oldest continually operating government schools to support families in the region well into the future.”
Since 2014, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has provided record infrastructure funding of $254.9 million to deliver 73 school upgrades across the State.
As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we will invest an additional $188 million to deliver major upgrades at a further 15 schools.
“Our Government is investing in education facilities for our students now and into the future,” Minister Palmer said.
Stages 3 and 4 of the Sorell School redevelopment are expected to be completed towards the end of this year, with works to refurbish the Years-7-8 learning hub well underway.
Liberal Member for Prosser, Kerry Vincent, said generations of students will benefit from the Government’s significant investment in the Sorell School.
“I know there’s been such a buzz in the community about the Sorell School upgrade, and it is brilliant to see stage 2 is now completed,” Mr Vincent said.
