Significant results in Operation Whiskey Legion in Logan, QLD

Specialist police have arrested 194 people and laid 421 charges during the latest deployment of Operation Whiskey Legion, a major intra-agency initiative targeting high-risk offenders in Logan.

Launched on December 4, the operation was a coordinated effort involving local police, Highway Patrol, Crime and Intelligence Command, Rail Squad, Water Police, Dog Squad, and Crime Prevention officers.

During the past seven days, 174 adults were arrested on 378 charges and 20 juveniles were arrested on 43 charges, with over 310 hotspot patrols conducted across Logan.

This included a proactive intercept by Logan police which led to the arrest of a man and a woman after reports of erratic driving on Browns Plains Road. Officers intercepted the vehicle in the Browns Plains Shopping Centre car park and detained the occupants after allegedly observing signs of drug use.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a range of alleged illicit substances, including ice, MDMA powder, pharmaceutical tablets and GHB.

Officers also allegedly located drug utensils, such as amphetamine pipes and used syringes, along with stolen registration plates and a large firework.

The driver, a 38-year-old woman from Browns Plains, has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug utensils, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and driving under the influence.

The passenger, a 40-year-old man from Kingston, has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs and possess utensils or pipes for use.

Both are due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 31.

Acting Superintendent Tim Mowle said the operation has achieved significant results.

“This initiative is about holding offenders accountable and enhancing community safety. Our officers have been out in the community making arrests and disrupting criminal activity.”

Police have conducted 52 bail compliance checks to ensure offenders are adhering to their conditions, with a strong focus on preventing further offences and deterring criminal activity.

“Bail compliance checks are a vital part of keeping the community safe and ensuring offenders are held accountable,” Acting Superintendent Mowle said.

While disrupting high-harm crime is a significant focus of Operation Whiskey Legion, engaging with members of the community, to provide crime prevention strategies and ensure residents feel supported, is also an essential component of the operation.

“Our officers have also connected with 101 victims of crime to offer guidance and referrals to support services,” Acting Superintendent Mowle said.

This was the last deployment of Operation Whiskey Legion for 2024; however, officers will continue to maintain a strong presence in the district to disrupt criminal activities and enhance community safety.
