Silver for Australia at WSPS World Cup in Al Ain

Overnight, Australia’s Anton Zappelli won the silver medal at the final World Cup of the year in Al Ain.

Anton finished qualification in the R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone (SH1) event with a score of 630.8, and a 4th place ranking going into the final. Anton then went on to shoot 252.7 in the final, .7 points behind the gold medallist Jangho LEE from Korea. Jean-Louis Michaud (France) won the bronze medal with a score of 230.4.

Of his medal win, Anton said ” It’s good to be back on the podium. Qualification was very rough and I struggled but i made a few adjustments going into the final and everything was nice and tight and I felt good and comfortable from the word go so I could fight for it. I started off really well [in the final] and stuck within .3 or .4 [of the lead] and after a couple of bad shots, reset and finished well.”

Anton’s fellow team mates Scottie Brydon and Glen McMurtrie also competed in the 10m Rifle Prone event. After shooting a qualification score of 629.2, Scottie progressed through to the final where he finished in 6th place. Glen shot a total of 625.8, missing a place in the final by 1.8 points.

The trio were successful in winning the Teams silver medal.

Over on the 25m range, it was Chris Pitt in action in the P3 Mixed 25m Pistol (SH1) event. Chris shot a qualification score of 551, and ranked 5th, progressed through to the final. Shooting a total of 7 points in the final, including a shoot off, Chris finished in 6th place.
