The ACT Government’s has this year delivered the highest number of newly constructed homes through the Growing and Renewing Public Housing Program.
Minister for Housing and Suburban Development Yvette Berry said 212 construction deliveries made it the biggest year of the Program yet.
The Minister visited six new homes in West Belconnen delivered through the program.
The new build has tripled the dwellings available for public housing tenants on the site that previously hosted two not-fit-for-purpose dwellings.
“That’s an extra four public housing properties that we can now offer tenants on this site alone,” said Minister Berry.
“These high quality and energy efficient properties are a fantastic addition to the public housing stock, it really showcases how the Growing and Renewing Public Housing program is successfully increasing the amount of housing available for public housing tenants across Canberra.
“The six new units are Class C adaptable to ensure they are easily modified to suit people with accessibility needs.”
The Program is on schedule to deliver 400 homes by 2027, with 296 having been delivered or committed, to date.
“We will continue to deliver more new homes and buy established homes and apartments from the market under the Program ensuring we continue to build our portfolio for Canberrans that need homes the most,” said Minister Berry.
