“His Royal Highness Prince Edward’s visit to Sydney is an incredible opportunity for our local kids to meet him and discuss with him life skills learned through The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award,” Cr Hamling said.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a youth development program, empowering all young Australians from 14 to 24 to explore their full potential and find their purpose, passion and place in the world, regardless of their location or circumstance.

There are three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold, each progressively requiring more challenging and more time commitment.
The Orange teenagers who met the Prince are Shontay Knights, Lynette Edwards, Joanne Wright, Jordyn Wright, and Achok Aluk. They are participants in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. The teenagers are part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards run by Orange City Council.
The meeting with the Prince was part of The Adventurous Journey section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, encouraging a sense of discovery while exploring an unfamiliar and challenging environment with an agreed team goal.
The Orange group was in charge of their trip to Sydney, including organising transport and accommodation and also finding some cultural sites to explore during their three-day trip.
More than 775,000 young people have participated in the Award in Australia in the past 58 years.
