Skeletal remains identified at Moree, NSW

Bones that were found on the bank of the Mehi River, Moree earlier this year have been identified as human.

Officers from New England Police District were called to the bank of the Mehi River, Moree, after skeletal remains were found about 11am on Tuesday 1 January 2019.

The remains were forensically examined and were determined to be human.

Ongoing forensic testing has confirmed that these are the remains of William Torrens – aged 75 – who was reported missing from a retirement village in the area on Friday 5 January 2019.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A brief will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
