Yarra City Council is working with the Victorian Government to deliver six smart poles across the Cremorne precinct.
These smart poles will provide high-speed free Wi-Fi, have the potential for 5G access across the precinct and will provide energy efficient LED lighting.
Free public Wi-Fi through the smart poles will help bridge the digital gap and foster innovation by ensuring everyone in Cremorne can access digital services, products and information.
Through this, Yarra City Council can ensure that businesses and residents have equitable access to high-speed internet. The smart poles will also use smart sensors which will provide access to air quality and foot and street traffic data.
This smart sensor information can be used to better understand the needs of the precinct, and ensure the best available insights are informing our services, operations and improvements.
The smart poles are being installed at the following six locations:
- 60 Swan Street, Cremorne (outside the Precinct Hotel)
- 60-88 Cremorne Street, Cremorne (outside SEEK)
- 85 Cremorne Street, Cremorne (outside Bendigo Kangan Institute)
- 168 Cremorne Street, Cremorne (outside MYOB)
- 53 Balmain Street, Cremorne (outside Cherry Tree Hotel)
- 80 Balmain Street, Cremorne (outside Cremorne Digital Hub)
One of the smart poles will service the new Cremorne Digital Hub which aims to drive a significant uplift in digital capability, workforce skills and innovation across Victorian industries.
The project is delivered as part of the Victorian Government Connecting Victoria program. Installation commences June 2023 and will be completed in August 2023.
