Police have charged a 35-year-old Sorell man after an incident at a private residence on Thursday night.
Around 9:10pm, emergency services were called to Henry Street, Sorell in response to a disturbance and reported house fire. The 35-year-old was located driving a vehicle nearby and arrested.
Police allege the man assaulted the occupant of the residence, before setting fire to the inside of the residence and nearby vegetation. It will further be alleged he drove a vehicle whilst intoxicated and disqualified from driving.
The man has been charged with arson, aggravated burglary, common assault, unlawfully setting fire to vegetation, disqualified driving, drive a motor vehicle while exceeding prescribed alcohol limit and other traffic offences.
He has been detained to appear in court this evening.
A 29-year-old man from Sorell was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.
