COVID Cases in SA
There have been 2,471 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia in the past week.
As of 11:59pm Thursday 11 May, there were 130 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including eight in ICU.
There were 12 COVID-19 deaths notified in the past week, the ages range from people in their 50s to 90s. Deaths may not have occurred in the week in which they were reported.

Variants
The latest genome sampling has found 70% of cases were caused by BA.2 and related variants (of which 13.9% were BA.2.7.5 and 86% were the XBB variant). The XBB.1.5 subvariant made up 20.1% of the total. Only two samples analysed were BA.5 variants. Other recombinant types made up 28.8% of the total variants (of which 92.9% were the XBC variant).
COVID testing
In the past week, 8,749 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a three per cent increase on the previous week. Of the test results returned, 780 PCR tests were positive and 1,691 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

COVID testing sites
There are more than 40 sites across the state where South Australians can access a PCR with and without a GP referral. This includes new walk-in clinics at Salisbury and Brighton, Frome Road in Adelaide and Mount Barker where people can get a free PCR without a referral. Bookings are preferred. PCR testing should be prioritised for people who are more vulnerable to the health impacts of a COVID infection and who would benefit from prompt diagnosis and treatment with oral antiviral medications.
