COVID cases in SA
There have been 851 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 7,741 active cases in South Australia.
Sadly, SA Health can confirm a man in his 70s, a man in his 80s, a woman in her 80s, a man in his 90s, and a man aged over 100, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. The deaths notified since the last report occurred between 1 May 2022 and 18 August 2022.
There are 263 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including nine people in ICU, with two ventilated.
*Due to changes underway within hospital reporting systems, today’s hospitalisation numbers have been collated using an alternative reporting method, which will be in place until later this month. Associated vaccination data is not available.
Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants
The latest genome sampling has found 1% of samples analysed were BA.2, 7.4% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 90.5% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing
Yesterday, 5,311 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is an 8% decrease on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 456 PCR tests were positive, while 395 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.
