South Australia Covid update as at 30 September 2022

COVID cases in SA

There have been 3,104 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia in the past week.

As of 11:59pm Thursday 29 September, there were 2,181 active cases in South Australia and 31 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including one in ICU.

*Due to changes underway within hospital reporting systems, this week’s hospitalisation number is limited for one Local Health Network.

Of those hospitalised, 20 people had received three or more vaccine doses, 10 people were either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and one had an unknown vaccination status.

There were 19 COVID-19 deaths notified in the past week, with the ages ranging from people in their fifties to people in their 90s, including three deaths in people aged under 70 years. Deaths may not have occurred in the week in which they were reported.

Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants

The latest genome sampling has found 9.7% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 82.6% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing

In the past week, 19,260 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a 4% decrease on the previous week. Of the test results returned, 1,323 PCR tests were positive, while 1,780 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Vaccination update

Currently 96.4% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine and 94.4% have received their second dose. Boosters have been administered to 75.2% of eligible South Australians and 71.1% of South Australians aged 16+.
