South Australia Covid update as at 5 August 2022

COVID cases in SA

There have been 2,421 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 17,647 active cases in South Australia.

SA Health can confirm one man in his 60s, three men in their 80s, one man in his 90s, one woman in her 60s, and two women in their 90s, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. The deaths notified since the last report occurred between 2 August 2022 and 4 August 2022 and include latest received data.

There are 316 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 11 people in ICU and two ventilated. Of those hospitalised, 196 people have received three or more vaccine doses, 105 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 15 have an unknown vaccination status.

Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants

The latest genome sampling has found 11% of samples analysed were BA.2, 11% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 77.9% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing

Yesterday, 9,317 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is an 8.74% decrease on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 1,292 PCR tests were positive, while 1,129 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Vaccination update

Currently 96.1% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine and 94.2% have received their second dose. Boosters have been administered to 74.6% of eligible South Australians and 70.2% of South Australians aged 16+.
