COVID Cases in SA
There have been 2,363 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia in the past week.
As of 11:59pm Thursday 4 May, there were 120 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including eight people in ICU with two people ventilated.
There were 17 COVID-19 deaths notified in the past week, the ages range from people in their 40s to 90s. Deaths may not have occurred in the week in which they were reported.
Please note that due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

*Five deaths have been removed from the total due to previously reported deaths found to be unrelated to COVID-19.
Variants
The latest genome sampling has found 62% of samples analysed were BA.2 and related variants (of which 13% were BA.2.7.5 and 86.6% were XBB), 14.3% were XBB.1.5 and 1.1% of samples analysed were BA.5 and related variants.
Other recombinant types made up 36.7% of the total variants (of which 83.3% were the XBC variant).
COVID testing
In the past week, 9,077 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a three per cent decrease on the previous week.
Of the test results returned, 779 PCR tests were positive and 1,584 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

COVID testing sites
There are more than 40 sites across the state where South Australians can access a PCR with and without a GP referral.
This includes new walk-in clinics at Salisbury and Brighton, Frome Road in Adelaide, and Mount Barker where people can get a free PCR without a referral.
Bookings are preferred.
PCR testing should be prioritised for people who are more vulnerable to the health impacts of a COVID infection, and who would benefit from prompt diagnosis and treatment with oral antiviral medications.
